A Relaxed Accessible Journey from Chiang Mai to Chiang Rai
Discover Northern Thailand on a private 3-day journey designed for wheelchair users, seniors and travelers who prefer a comfortable and flexible travel pace.
Begin with a meaningful elephant care experience in Mae Taeng before traveling to Tha Ton, a peaceful local community in Mae Ai District. Continue through northern border areas to Mae Sai, the Golden Triangle and Chiang Rai’s famous temples.
Transportation is provided by Authentic Thai Tours using our wheelchair-accessible van equipped with a hydraulic lift.
This is a private and customizable journey. Hotel accommodation in Tha Ton and Chiang Rai is not included, allowing guests to select and book accommodation according to their preferred budget and accessibility requirements.
DAY 1 — CHIANG MAI, ELEPHANT CARE AND THA TON
RECOMMENDED START: APPROXIMATELY 9:30–10:00 AM
HOTEL PICK-UP IN CHIANG MAI
Pick-up from your hotel in Chiang Mai by Authentic Thai Tours.
Guests who need to remain seated in their wheelchair during transportation can board our wheelchair-accessible van using the hydraulic lift.
The final pick-up time will be confirmed according to the guest’s daily routine and individual requirements.
TRAVEL TO MAE TAENG
Travel from Chiang Mai to a suitable elephant care location in Mae Taeng at a comfortable pace.
ELEPHANT CARE EXPERIENCE
Meet the local staff and learn about the elephants, their food, daily routines and care.
Enjoy feeding the elephants under close supervision and take memorable photographs from a suitable and safe area.
All activities are conducted according to the guidance of the local staff and may be adjusted depending on the elephants’ natural behavior, weather, accessibility and safety conditions.
LUNCH
Enjoy lunch at a suitable local restaurant and take time to rest before continuing the journey.
Please tell us in advance about any food allergies or dietary restrictions.
MAE TAENG TO THA TON
After the elephant care experience, travel from Mae Taeng to Tha Ton in Mae Ai District.
The journey takes approximately three hours. Rest stops can be arranged when needed.
ARRIVAL IN THA TON
Arrive in Tha Ton in the late afternoon and check in at your selected hotel.
Take time to rest and experience the quiet atmosphere of this local riverside community.
If the guest still has sufficient energy, a short visit to a suitable local area or riverside location may be arranged.
Overnight in Tha Ton.
Hotel accommodation is not included.
DAY 2 — THA TON, MAE SAI AND THE GOLDEN TRIANGLE
RECOMMENDED START: APPROXIMATELY 9:00 AM
After breakfast at your hotel, meet the Authentic Thai Tours team and continue the journey toward Chiang Rai.
WAT THAM PU–THAM PLA
Visit Wat Tham Pu–Tham Pla, a peaceful temple and nature stop surrounded by trees, ponds and local wildlife.
This program focuses on the accessible temple and relaxation areas. Climbing to the cave on the mountain is not required.
Wild monkeys may sometimes be seen in the surrounding area. Guests should not feed, touch or approach the monkeys and must follow the safety advice of the guide and local staff.
MAE SAI BORDER TOWN
Continue to Mae Sai, Thailand’s northernmost border town.
Experience the local atmosphere and visit a suitable shopping or viewing area on the Thai side of the border.
Crossing into Myanmar is not included and cannot be guaranteed. Border conditions and regulations may change without advance notice.
LUNCH
Enjoy lunch at a suitable local restaurant and take time to rest.
THE GOLDEN TRIANGLE
Visit the Golden Triangle, where the borders of Thailand, Myanmar and Laos meet along the Mekong River.
Enjoy the scenery and learn about the history and importance of this famous northern region.
The route and time spent in the area can be adjusted according to the guest’s mobility and comfort.
TRAVEL TO CHIANG RAI
Continue to Chiang Rai and check in at your selected hotel.
If time, accessibility and the guest’s energy level allow, an evening visit to Wat Rong Suea Ten, also known as the Blue Temple, may be arranged.
If the guest prefers to rest, the Blue Temple can be considered for Day 3, depending on the confirmed flight schedule.
Overnight in Chiang Rai.
Hotel accommodation is not included.
DAY 3 — CHIANG RAI TEMPLES AND AIRPORT TRANSFER
The starting time and number of attractions will be arranged according to the guest’s confirmed flight schedule.
WAT RONG KHUN — WHITE TEMPLE
Visit Wat Rong Khun, one of Chiang Rai’s most famous artistic and cultural landmarks.
The White Temple is scheduled first because it closes earlier than some of the other temples in Chiang Rai.
Accessibility varies between different areas. We will select the most suitable route according to the guest’s mobility and conditions on the day.
WAT HUAY PLA KANG
Continue to Wat Huay Pla Kang, known for its impressive architecture, large Guan Yin figure and views of the surrounding area.
The route and areas visited will be adjusted according to accessibility, available time and the guest’s comfort.
WAT RONG SUEA TEN — BLUE TEMPLE
If the Blue Temple was not visited on Day 2, it may be included on Day 3 when the flight schedule, available time and guest’s energy level allow.
For an earlier flight, this stop may be omitted to ensure a comfortable and timely airport transfer.
LUNCH
Enjoy lunch at a suitable local restaurant before traveling to the airport.
For an early flight, the lunch arrangement may be adjusted according to the available time.
TRANSFER TO CHIANG RAI INTERNATIONAL AIRPORT
After the tour, travel to Mae Fah Luang–Chiang Rai International Airport according to the confirmed flight schedule.
Please provide your flight details in advance so we can arrange the most suitable itinerary and airport arrival time.

As this is a private tour, the final price per person depends on the number of guests. A smaller group may have a higher price per person, while a larger group may have a lower price per person because transportation and guide costs are shared among the group.
